After celebrating and sharing similarities between themselves and their friends last week, this week, Year 1 continued full steam ahead with their ‘Celebrating Difference’ learning journey by considering how each individual was different…AND HOW THAT’S PERFECTLY OK!
The concept of being different to each other was brought to life through a fun, interactive game of ‘The corner game’. This game involves one player making a statement, such as ‘I like basketball.’ Other pupils who agree with the statement head over to the ‘yes’ corner, and if you disagree, you must join the ‘no’ corner. Do these different opinions change how we feel about each other or change our friendships? Absolutely not!
This game proved very popular amongst the children and evoked a really high- quality discussion around how differences are what make individuals and our relationships with each other so special. The children now understand that these differences are a cause for celebration and not something to be feared or shied away from. This concept will be developed even further through our whole school Anti-Bullying Week assembly next week, led by Mrs Turner.
