Exploring diets of the past

Year three today investigated what a Stone Age diet consistsed of by examing replica Stone Age faeces! The children disected the stinky matter and found acorns, worms, berry seeds, bones and bread.

The first Stone Age people were hunter gathers and used to eat berries, nuts and grind acorns down to make flour and bread. They also hunted wild animals hence the children found bones in the excrement. There were worms living in Stone Age dwellers bowels as they rarely washed their hands and were a lot more dirtier than us today!

The children really enjoyed their lesson and finding out practically what Stone Age people ate. Later on, we looked at coprolite stones that are real ancient faeces! The stones looked so shiny and pretty, it was hard to believe that they were once human waste!
