On a daily basis, Years 5 & 6 sit back and take the time to enjoy a good book courtesy of DEAR time. DEAR time – Drop Everything And Read – is timetabled every day with Mr Peake and it gives the children the opportunity to read a book of their choice for pleasure. As part of our Accelerated Reader system, the children also get to take a short quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of what they have read.

Finally – just before it is time to pack the books away – the children take the time to write a short comment in their reading record, reflecting on what they have read in that session.

Jason says “I enjoy DEAR time because the whole class is quiet and it gives me the chance to read more and more books.”

Taiya adds “DEAR time is good for me because I like reading books and it gives me time to focus.”
