Black History Month

This October pupils at Eastbrook celebrated Black History Month, with a variety of events…

The Excellence and Equality committee for the year was selected after an application process, it was very difficult narrowing down the successful members due to the high quality of work submitted. The new members were announced during a special assembly held on Monday 16th October.

During the special assembly pupils announced that the theme for this year’s Black History Month was ‘Celebrating our Sisters’. Pupils learnt about famous black women in the fields of arts, sports, medicine, politics and entertainment. Year 6 pupils said how they felt  inspired by some of the women and would like to be a footballer like Lauren James or a nurse like Mary Seacole etc.

Each class in the school has produced a piece of work linked to the assembly, which is proudly on display in school. KS1 pupils were also treated to an African theatre experience presented by the Freshwater Theatre company, see the separate news article.
