An End to Pre-History

Years 3 and 6 had a fabulous afternoon bringing the ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’ history topic to a close. Pupils in Year 3 divided themselves into small groups, each group chose a favourite lesson or aspect of Pre-history to teach to Year 6.

Some children modelled Stone Age clothes, others demonstrated and explained how flint weapons were used, there was a chance to weave a wattle and daub wall of a round house, some children recalled facts about woolly mammoths, there was an art gallery of Stone Age cave art, jewellery was displayed and one group explained about the ancient monument of Stonehenge then encouraged others to build a relica from Duplo!

Year 3 pupils were keen to recall their facts, knowledge and work from history lessons to Year 6. Year 6 pupils were also eager to learn new knowledge, they patiently listened and asked relevant questions.

Later on, both year groups headed over to the forest area and learnt how flints and steels were used to start fires during the Pre-history period. Fires were very important for cooking food, keeping away predators and keeping people warm. Pupils were treated to some delicious smores while they sat around the fire.
