An afternoon in the Amazon Rainforest

Tall lofty trees, grass and shrubs surrounded year 5 this afternoon as they took a trip to the Amazon Rainforest. As they were seated, sounds of the exotic animals and creatures played in the background, and filtered through the room- all were fully immersed.

This term, year 5 have been reading the text, The Great Kapok Tree. They completed in-depth research over the last couple of weeks and have since started their ‘Big Write’ (a non-chronological report). To extend their learning, they had the opportunity to complete some observational drawings in their art lesson this afternoon. Pupils focused on what observational drawing truly means, the three second rule (looking at the subject almost always) and ensuring the drawing is proportionate whilst using their pencil and thumb to measure.

It was great to see year 5 supporting one another whilst developing their drawing skills, as well as linking this to the writing they will complete over the next two weeks.
