Maths in Reception has been very fun this week, with the children exploring shapes with a focus on 2D. It was giggling all around when the children played the shape monster game, having to work out which shape to feed the monster. They were able to answer such thinking questions such as ‘How do you know it’s a triangle?’. Even developing their vocabulary with the language of sides and corners.

The children enjoyed the circle time game, where each child got a 2D shape which had time to investigate and label. As a class, they then had to sort and compare all the shapes they had.

Taking away their sense of sight they had to identify the shape from inside a feely bag, counting the sides and feeling for corners, the children were able to name the shape, feeling very proud when they revealed the correct answer.

For their home learning task, the children were sent on a shape hunt around their house, and lots of fun and enthusiastic videos were sent in that the children enjoyed sharing over snack time.
