Year 1 learners have enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year, which is this coming weekend. Year 1 pupils thoroughly enjoyed acting out the story of the twelve animals having a race to decide who would be the first to have a year named after them. There were some very strong opinions voiced regarding the rat’s underhand tactics to reach the Jade Emperor first. The children were then keen to explore the traditional customs of Chinese New Year and learned lots about how families prepare for and celebrate this special time of year. Year 1 are very much looking forward to Miss Maxted’s whole school Chinese New Year celebration next week, where spring rolls will be eaten and decorations will be made.
