Week 15 – The Greatest Show Team

Week 15 – The Greatest Show Team

Week 15 was an eventful week at Eastbrook. We began with both outdoor and indoor sporting events for a healthy start to the week. This was combined with some great online learning in the morning and afternoons. Freya and Jac produced some intriguing insights for their future friends and family, which described life during lockdown and their thoughts for their future self should anything like this happen again in their lifetime. Here is Jac’s contribution:

Dear future Jac,
I am writing about my experience in Eastbrook school while Covid-19 has been floating around this astonishing world. People, as you may know, have been passing away due to this awful virus and have been in hospital trying their hardest to survive; some have passed away and some have lived. It’s hard to think about the future when you are young and living with Covid-19. You just want to believe that you will survive, to have a future, to get married, to have a family, to have a job. But through these distressing times, I just want to say: ‘Think of others and what they will have to go through trying to beat this and fight for their lives in hospital.’
I have friends that have Covid-19, or they think they have it and when you have it, you have to stay alone for ages. It will go slow and might be tragic but what I’m trying to say here is to stay safe keep your distance, wash your hands and don’t go out and have fun with friends and family because you could be next. To pass away … it’s scary thinking about death in this situation because once you pass away, there won’t be another you in the world again and this is a very tough life lesson. So, stay indoors, keep safe and keep clean.
If I had a chance to go back through time, I would honestly change things because I haven’t really kept safe distances all the time. I would keep a safe distance but activity wise, I would try something new like learning to play an instrument, cooking/baking, or just try a new sport. For my personal preference, I would try a new sport to stay active because I’m not going to lie, most young people thought they had nothing to do. I’ve just eaten and watched Netflix and I’ve gotten a little bigger, so I wish I had done a new sport and stayed skinner and more active during lock down, especially being as it has been linked with having a good survival rate, should you catch Covid 19.

This is Freya’s contribution:

Dear Future Freya,

I know 2020 was a stressful year and you made it through but I have some advice for you. You were not expecting Covid 19 the first time it happened and you were not as prepared as you should have been. I need to tell you some things, just in case this outbreak happens again. I am writing this letter at school. Yes. I had to go back but I had to follow all of these rules. You may have forgotten them, as it might be few years after I write this that you read it but these were the rules. We had to social distance and sit one to a table and we were told to wash our hands every time we ate, went outside and every time we used the toilet. The rules sound silly and we got used to it but it was important that we followed these rules. Many people had gone back to school and we had to keep our distance and keep ourselves safe. However, many people did not listen to these rules at first, tried to sit together, and had to be told to distance themselves a few times every day.
If outbreak happens again, always follow these rules. If you are at school, listen to the teachers and what they ask. If you are at college or university, make sure to keep yourself safe and do what you need, to feel safe. You may feel like you do not want to obey these rules because you are older and have been through it before but it is super important for you to listen and obey the rules. They will make sure you are safe, healthy and keep you from getting sick. These are dangerous times right now and I am trying my best to stay calm but there is so much going on. This is a very eventful year and I hope you can remember it the best you can. It is an achievement to get this far with everything that is going on. I hope you are proud that you done all you could do to keep yourself safe during 2020. I hope you do everything you can if this happens again and hope you stay safe, even if there is no outbreak or virus.
Just remember, you survived Covid 19 in 2020. This is an amazing achievement. If you could survive the virus, you can take on anything. Just put your mind to it and go for it. You should be proud of yourself for being so determined and fixed on doing as much as you could to keep you and your family safe.

Yours sincerely,
Freya Staples (the one living in 2020)

Claire produced some beautiful artwork. Her skulls are amazing. Here is one:

Later in the week, after their online learning, students created origami animals, including a toad, a penguin, a whale, a cat and a snake. Others created a range of aeroplanes, which we flew down quiet corridors. All were then given to loved ones, with little messages written inside. Here are some examples:

Fun Friday, included a the Greatest Show Talent Competition, which included comedians, musicians and singers vying for the prizes available. In third place came Jaden Elie with a beautiful piono performance. Second place was awarded to Casie Leigh West for her rendition of ‘Lost Boy.’ First place went to Claire Wallis for her rendition of ‘Born Without Heart.’ We would like to thank our Y10 judges Alfie and Rhiannon for helping to decide the winners. Of course, all participants are winners in our eyes, as it takes so much courage to perform in front of others. Well done to all!
