When families arrive in a new country, often the children are first to pick up the new language – and inevitably, they become the family interpreters. Well, the students in our school became inevitably…young interpreters!

Very proud about their linguistic heritage, the students in the Young Interpreters Club from Eastbrook School are more than happy to help in different situations by using their skills. In some cases, they can speak more than two foreign languages! Spanish, Romanian, Polish, Italian, Lithuanian, Russian, German, Bengali, Bulgarian, Persian, Arabic, Greek, Portuguese, Albanian, Urdu…you name it! And the list goes on…

We are here to help and yes, we can speak your language. We can translate for newly arrived students, their parents and teachers whenever necessary: students’ admissions, Parents Evenings or Open Evenings, in different other situations when somebody in school is in need of our linguistic skills and abilities.

The Young Interpreters have a Code of Conduct and we are very proud to apply the things we learned about in our club and consider them as being paramount: confidentiality, objectivity, accuracy or punctuality are only a few of the ones which form our ethics. We try to be supportive, kind and patient even when circumstances are a bit difficult!

Being a Young Interpreter involves lots of training, hard work and terminology awareness-yes, we want to keep updated to the most important terms related to modern education, as well. Why? It is because this is the very essence of what we do: supporting in a manner which some students, parents and teachers in our school can describe as being so useful, efficient and almost professional.

We are proud of being part of tradition in Eastbrook School and we will continue to strive, engage and endeavor in the future, as well. Being a Young Interpreter is part of our ethos and commitment!
