Trading Game

As we approach the end of term the Economics and Business departments decided to get together and do a joint event for Year 10.  Students were put into groups that were named after fictional countries with different resources and were asked to compete to make as much money as possible by cutting out shapes and banking the amount they created.  Some students have lots of resources (paper) and some countries had lots of capital (rulers, pencils, scissors).  In addition, there were sixth formers playing the roles of multinationals who were selling capital and resources to the Year 10 students for huge profits.

Year 10 found out that often trade isn’t fair as Businesses will sometimes try to exploit countries to make a profit but they also learned what fair trade is and the winning teams received Fairtrade chocolate as a reward.

Here are some pictures from our event.
