The Study Hub has launched

On Thursday 10th October, the English Department invited 100 Year 11 students to the opening of the Study Hub.

The Study Hub is a space for pre-school and after-school learning intervention and replicates a University learning environment: it houses a lecture theatre, seminar space, a resource library, group work rooms and a silent study area …. and lots of plants!

Students are encouraged to take responsibility for the direction of their own learning, guided by the teachers on-hand as well as comments in their exercise books in response to their class work.

The area was launched by the English Department and students could choose from a lecture about narrative perspectives, a seminar on the confusion of verb tenses, or more independent study of writing skills. These options will be available weekly with a variety of topics covered.

Independent study is vital for success at school and in exams – and the Study Hub provides a supported environment where this can take place.

Other subjects will be offering similar learning intervention experiences in the Study Hub after half term and Year 11 students will have access to a full intervention timetable.
