Eastbrook endorses Black Excellence

Following a successful inauguration of Black Excellence at Eastbrook School, we are pleased to endorse more activities for our students, staff and wider community to participate, learn and enjoy.

We continue to

Ø  Link content to context that supports the narrative of Black Excellence

Ø  Facilitate students’ presentation, of their research, on black people who have excelled in areas linked to the curriculum

Firstly, our students are working in groups to apply PROUD virtues in critically analysing the extent to which their chosen character was or is a Black Freedom Fighter or a Villain. They will compete against their peers, in form, to determine the group that represents their form, and subsequently face other form representatives, to ascertain a winner for their year group. They have a choice of presenting their work in the form of a speech, rap or poem.

On Friday, 21st October, we will be delighted to have Mrs Anu Adebogun, an author, Research Fellow at Oxford University and a past student of Eastbrook School, who will be conducting workshops across years 7-12.

In November, we will be hosting another Black Excellence Concert and Disco. If the standards set by last year’s event can be replicated, we are in treat for yet another enthralling and high energetic and talented performance from our students both as performers, hosts and DJs. We hope to surpass last year’s proceeds of over £700, which was donated to Brixton Soup kitchen, a charity that feeds thousands of homeless people in South East London.
