Debate Mate Launch

On Wednesday the 3rd of November, Miss Wood, Miss Nasser-Shah and Miss Basir took 30 Year 7 and Year 8 students on a trip to the Emmanuel Centre in London for the Launch of the 2021-22 Debate Mate Programme. This event was the first official launch in two years and comes just before the Debate Mate Club begins at Eastbrook next Thursday.

Students who went to the Launch had the chance to learn more about the art of debating and to witness and take part in a live ‘show debate’. Those who attended the trip were engaged throughout the session and were full of fantastic questions and ideas about the motion for debate- “We should all be vegan”. When the time came to vote on the motion, and for pupils to decide whether they agreed or disagreed with it, Eastbrook were divided in opinion and left the session still debating about the issue amongst themselves!

The behaviour and conduct of Eastbrook students on the trip was exceptional. Miss Wood and Miss Shah, would like to give a special mention to Tommy Lee, Nicole, Megan and Ethan who behaved according to the Eastbrook PROUD principles by offering their seats to members of the public on the train, listening carefully to instructions and engaging thoroughly in the programme of the day.

Everyone who attended the Debate Mate Launch trip left with a feeling of excitement and enthusiasm which we very much hope will continue into next week’s first Debate Mate session.

We can’t wait to see you there-
