Year 5 & 6 were in involved in Equaliteach sessions today. The session named ‘Think!’ set out with the aim to talk about and discuss equality and to change stereotypical thinking and ensuring we are treating people equally. The children all demonstrated their ability to be critical thinkers and to examine things they may have taken for granted in more detail.
The children came away knowing the difference between immigrants and refugees. They also took part in an activity to decide who to invite to a dinner party and give their reasons for and against those invited and those left out.
They also discussed where information comes from and where their ideas may begin and that sometimes the sources of information they are looking at are not the best places. They finished the session with a clear understanding of the ideas of stereotype, bias and trustworthy news sources.
