What Is Growing On Us?

The children in Reception became mini scientist this week and conducted their own Science experiment at home and at school. They had to touch one slice of bread with dirty hands and another slice of bread with clean freshly washed hands. Over the week the children used their observation skills to compare the changes. They checked in on their experiments, noticing the different rate that the mould was growing.

When they came together to discuss their findings, the children impressed with their knowledge of germs and the use of their new vocabulary; observe and compare. The children drew up their results and wrote a short conclusion about their findings.

Some children even conducted a second experiment to see the effect of soap on a bowl of pepper after Miss Maxted’s lesson. The soap acted as a super power and pushed all the pepper germs away. The importance of washing your hands is always a good lesson but especially at the moment, it was great for the children to experience first hand the germs that are growing on us.
