Terrific Trewern – Day One

Pupils were at school very early on Monday morning, ready for their residential visit to Trewern! There were some nervous faces, some sleepy and some very excited children boarding the bus. After a long journey and a stop for lunch they eventually arrived in Hay-on-Wye to glorious sunshine!

There was a quick tour of the facilities and unpacking before the pupils hiked up the lane to the historic church yard. Upon arriving at the churchyard, there was quite a welcome for our pupils and nine pupils had the honour of unveiling some beautiful information boards, about the flora and fauna that live in the churchyard! After the unveiling, there were some speeches and then it was time for some Shakespeare and a rousing sing song from the Hay-on-Wye theatre! The children joined in with great gusto and were in awe of the performance!

Once back at base, they made preparations for dinner, laying the tables and handing out food. There was hearty soup, pizza, salad and apple crumble and custard! After dinner the children are in teams and helped together to sweep up, wash and dry up and soon the place looked spic and span again!

It still was not time for bed, instead pupils went on a night walk around the churchyard and lanes. They heard some owls and learnt about the historic yew trees in the church yard that are reported to be 1000 years old! All too soon, it was time to retire for the evening and rest those weary heads ready for another day of adventure…
