Stinky Surprises In Year 1’s Stocking

Year 1 had to question whether or not they had made it onto the naughty or nice list this Christmas, when instead of a traditional stocking full of gifts, during today’s science lesson, they were the unlucky recipients of some disgusting bags of animal poo.

To end our unit of learning on ‘Animals including humans’, Year 1 had to play the very untraditional, festive game of ‘Whose poo?’. The challenge was to investigate the poo, which was messier than it sounds, and see which clues could be found inside to identify the culprit.

The children were a bit hesitant in the beginning, but soon got into the swing of things and applied their knowledge of carnivore, herbivore and omnivore diets to correctly identify the owners of the abandoned poos.  All sorts of goodies were found hidden inside, including small animal bones, grass, leaves, berries, flowers and seeds.

Year 1 thoroughly enjoyed being poo investigators this morning and were so fantastic at it that I bet Father Christmas moved all of the children straight to the top of his nice list!
