The children of Year 1 have kicked off their new maths curriculum by taking a trip to the Eastbrook Forest to take their learning outside and make it as practical as possible. Whilst there, the children consolidated their number recognition from their prior learning in Reception and practised their one to one correspondence by collecting the correct number of ‘forest treasure’ items from the forest floor. Of course they worked so hard that there was just about time for a little forest exploration which evoked lots of cross-curricular conversation about the changing seasons and the local wildlife that call our Eastbrook Forest home.
