Life after Death

Year six have been studying and comparing the different religious beliefs on the subject of life after death. This week they have been looking at that Hindu religion and the practised involved when someone dies. The pupils have studied images of a Hindu funeral and discussed what happens to the body, the clothing that mourners wear etc. Next they looked at a bank of  statements and decided if they were true, false or non-applicable to Hindu beliefs about death.

They learnt that Hindus believe in reincarnation and a person’s soul can be reborn after death, ultimately achieving a state identified as Moksha. They also learnt that Hindus believe in karma and a good deed then elevates that person, this was demonstrated when the pupils played a version of snakes and ladders. Pupils wrote good deeds in a square on the board that had a ladder in it and a poor decision in a square which had a snake head in it. The children enjoyed playing the game and they considered their  own everyday actions and deeds, whilst playing the game.
