Go Fish!

After a hard-fought assessment week, Year 6 enjoyed a maths session focusing on their quick mental arithmetic skills.

This is a target for all of our children this year as we are aiming for high scores in our maths arithmetic papers.

To help them secure some of the fundamental concepts of maths e.g. number bonds to 10  and near number bonds, we tweaked the game of ‘Go Fish!’ with the children trying to find number bond pairs to make 10 instead of matching the cards like for like.

Getting the basics right is fundamental to doing well, this rings especially true in maths. Mastering this skill will allow the children to move on quickly and enable them to master concepts such as algebra more securely.
