Friction Ramps

In Science this half term, we have been learning about the affect that forces have on us. This week, we investigated the affect that different surfaces may have on movement of a toy car. The children used five different surfaces: sponge, bubble wrap, corded carpet, plexiglass and loop carpet. In addition to a variety of surfaces, the children also varied the height of the ramps that they used. The children exhibited amazing teamwork and courtesy while they conducted their investigation. They also discovered that the smooth surface of the plexiglass had the least amount of friction and allowed the toy car to move quite freely.
