Determination

As part of our Character Education  at Eastbrook, Year 4 have had a very exciting day delving deeper into the virtues which underpin our daily lives. We took a closer look at the virtue of determination coupled with teamwork in a bid to fully understand how important is is to have support while learning and playing. The children were set a challenge of passing a hula hoop around a circle while holding hands. The challenge was to keep the circle unbroken and to get the hula hoop around each child. Initially, the children thought it was impossible but with clear communication, encouragement and determination the children were able to over the initial challenge. Additionally, to support the children’s understanding of overcoming set backs, we looked at the Derek Redmond’s 400m race during the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992, where is displayed such determination in order to complete his event despite the severe injury that he suffered.
