Carpet of Plants

During Science, pupils in Year Three conducted careful observations of the plants in playground. Before they began their observations, they first gathered the equipment they needed. Pupils used a magnifying glass which allowed them to closely look at the different types of plants and they also used a hula hoop, which they used to mark off the area where they concentrated their plant observations. Pupils worked in small groups to conduct their observations and there was teamwork in abundance thorough out.

It was astounding for the pupils to discover that their playground was carpeted with such a wide variety of plants especially in such a small area. Pupils used the information gathered to sketch four different types of plants. Through their observation they noticed that the leaves of the plants were shaped differently, some plants flowered, and some did not and also the plants that produced flowers, had the flowers on long stems. At the end of the lesson, pupils discussed and shared their findings and experience with each other.
