A Taste of the Caribbean!

Pupils in Year Three are currently reading ‘Gregory Cool’ during their English lessons, the story is about Gregory’s holiday to stay with his family in Tobago. In the book Gregory eats some authentic Caribbean food so the children in Year Three cooked some Caribbean dishes so that they could experience the tastes that Gregory had on his holiday.

The children prepared jerk chicken,  rice and peas, marinated sweet bananas and we will have to wait until the end of the week for the plantain to ripen before we can cook it! Many of the children had not tried some of the food before but were keen to sample it (the huge smiles in the photographs speak for themselves)! The bananas were even cooked Caribbean style in a fire in our forest area!

The morning spent cooking made the book come alive more for the pupils and despite the damp British weather the children were briefly transported to Tobago experiencing the smells and spices of the beautiful Caribbean island.
