UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge

Early in March, pupils in year 9, 10 and 11 maths classes were selected by their teachers to take part in the ‘Intermediate Maths Challenge’ run by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT). This challenge is not for the faint hearted. It really tests your maths boundaries and definitely makes you ‘think outside the box’. It is a multiple choice test of 25 questions which is written for 1 hour.

This year we had the privilege of inviting 70 pupils from across year 9,10 and 11. All the selected pupils have made Eastbrook School very PROUD and 2 pupils, Stefania Bogacz (10C ) and Iuliana Gavriliuc (11E ), have made it to the next round after scoring the highest in the test and their year group. They have now been selected to write the ‘Pink Kangaroo’ test where only invited pupils are allowed to write. Well done Stefania and Liliana.

In addition to this, there were many pupils who, as well, received Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates for achieving the relevant scores in the test. A big congratulations to them all.

A further massive congratulations goes out to Dora Mnamdi (9E ) who achieved the highest score in year 9. The list of the certificate winners and the list of the invited pupils are attached.

Thank you to the Maths Department, Mr Khan and Mrs. Manoranjan for their endless efforts in assisting with the organisation of this test.

Next up is the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge (year 7 and 8 – 30th April 2020)…Watch this space!!!
