Week 9 – More Sun Than You Can Shakespeare A Stick At

The week was blessed by the lovely weather with an array of cheerful students, eager to begin the week’s activities. The students spent the morning completing their online learning and spent their afternoon engaging in various different projects ranging from cooking to sports.

On Monday, students put on their media hats and took a virtual trip to Hollywood producing a new film idea targeted at young people. They explored various genres and came up with their own characters and title before creating movie posters. The afternoon saw a students vs teachers badminton match where Casey Leigh West and Jac Cooper unleashed their competitive side becoming a formidable team. (Teachers quickly found that one loses any badminton skills they used to posses rather quickly when they haven’t stepped onto a court for a few years!)

Tuesday we visited the Chase and students were challenged with taking photos representing each letter of the alphabet. Alfie Thornton really excelled at this task with his photos of landscapes and scenery (Mr Nathan will be proud). In the afternoon, students had some down time to recuperate from all of the walking with a movie and some popcorn.

On Wednesday we made cupcakes! Warren Cooper holds two records from this day. The fastest baker and the fastest student to eat six cupcakes in a row! The cakes produced by the students would have made Mary Berry proud – we certainly were.

On Thursday we paid homage to the wonderful work going on around the UK at the moment. We started the morning at the Chase and students were tasked with taking a photo representing every colour of the rainbow. We were lucky enough to see the baby swans and students enjoyed spotting the fish in the water.  The afternoon brought about a discussion on the importance of values and how they are shown during this current climate. Students were then able to demonstrate their architectural prowess by creating designs for Westminster palace to reflect these values and created 3D models of the landmark.  Mirsad Trezhnjeva’s model stood out as a great testament to the brave spirit and united values of the nation.

Finally, the end of the week saw students embarking on a ‘Dragon’s Den” type activity where they were asked to design a new Nike trainer. The work produced would have rivaled the top designers at Nike and really impressed all with many using the rainbow theme from the day before.

Overall, a wonderful week where students really gave their all. Well done guys!
