Jack Petchey Foundation Count on Us Secondary Maths Challenge

The Jack Petchey Foundation Count on Us Secondary Maths Challenge is an exciting maths programme involving secondary schools in London. The aim is to engage students in a range of maths activities, challenge, motivate and inspire young people.

Eastbrook School students took part virtually for the first time this year. It was a unique experience for them because they had the opportunity to compete with students from across many London boroughs.

A selection of year 9 students took part in the heats but prior to the competition, the students were meeting weekly for maths club where they worked through many of the exciting maths activities. These include 24 card games, coding & algebra, hex and grid line geometry. The most popular activity is the 24 card games, where students are expected to work with various numbers to come up with the answer of 24. Some classes have incorporated the 24 card game in lessons and we look forward to rolling it out across more teaching groups.

Despite the covid challenges, the students did very well and make Eastbrook School very PROUD.
