Debate Mate club is launching next month- we’d love for you to join!

Calling all year 7, 8, 9 and 10 Eastbrook students!

Next month, on the 10th of November, Debate Mate club launches at Eastbrook school. The club will run on Thursday’s from 3:30pm-4:30pm, offering you an opportunity to build your confidence and learn a new skill.

In E.G.4 and E.G.6, under the supervision of University students, you will have the chance to master the art of debating.

But what is Debating?

Debating is essentially arguing, but in an organised manner. It is a way for you to express your opinions on a variety of topics and persuade an audience to agree with your ideas. It will be an opportunity to challenge both yourself and others on subjects concerning the wider world. Topics we have debated in the past include; issues surrounding the Environment, the nature of Video games, the development of Artificial Intelligence (should we replace teachers with robots?) and Celebrity culture.

Throughout the year there will be chances to take part in a variety of competitions. This includes the Urban Debating League, where students will debate against pupils from schools within the local authority. This is a fantastic way for students to showcase the skills that they will have learnt throughout the year.

If Debate Mate sounds like something you would be interested in please see Miss Wood or Mr. Dhansey to receive a sign-up letter.

We hope to see you in November-
Miss Wood and Mr. Dhansey, Debate Mate Coordinators for Eastbrook School
