Celebrating Africa

Re Celebrating Africa October 2020

At Eastbrook School, we embrace different cultures across the world. This has been one of our assets for many years and added great value to our rich learning environment.

Over three weeks in October, we embraced Black History Month with a focus on different aspects of Africa. Each week, tutees and their tutors focused, including (week 1) People and Food; (week 2) language, literature and landmarks; (week 3) dancing, music and fashion. Students had the opportunities to engage with the content, by making presentations, dancing and discussing issues affecting black people around the world, including Black Lives Matter.

Our culminating event, on Friday 23rd, was a non-school uniform day with a focus on African Attire.  Proceed raised from non-uniform day was £590 and will be donated to 2 UK charities The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust  and Generating Genius. Images of the day can be viewed below.

Students had opportunities to enter the Black History Month Poster and Poetry competitions. A selection of entries can be view below

A huge thanks to our school community for providing another opportunity for us all to be PROUD at Eastbrook
