Art really does Matter to our Year 7s!

On Friday 8th July, the majority of Year 7s visited the Art Matters Exhibition held at UEL Docklands. Art Matters is a showcase of visual art works made by young people from over 50 primary schools, secondary schools and sixth form colleges from East London boroughs.

Eastbrook was represented for the first time this year so it was a real treat for the Year 7s to see their peers’ artwork displayed in a gallery.

Our students loved the opportunity to see art made by young people, in real life. Amira Ali from 7D said: “This art gallery was so amazing. It was so shocking to see how young age groups could make such astonishing creations. I was so inspired by all the art work, so many different types, all having a story behind them. Other art pieces showing the reality and humanity of the world. Some people may think of these as “just art ” but there are very meaningful back stories, like the charity Education for Change, that tries to stop racism in all schools and tries to equalise all races. All together it was such a nice experience and I am so grateful I could go!”

The Year 7s were impeccably well behaved and respectful of the environment. Here you can see the students engaging with the work, by nominating their favourite pieces and drawing in the gallery. Well done Year 7s, we are PROUD!

Thank you to Rachana Vaja and everyone at the Art Matters team for hosting us. You can see all the artwork at www.artmatterslondon.org
