Year 1 have had their very first ‘work experience’ this week and became published authors. Using our Power of Reading text, ‘Wild’ by Emily Hughes as inspiration, the children have written their own versions of the story and created books. Some children focused on their blending skills to create simple words and others really challenged themselves and wrote full sentences. First, orally rehearsing the sentence, then counting the number of words before blending the sounds that could be heard in each word and then finally re-reading to check that the sentence made sense and had the correct punctuation. Everybody felt very proud of themselves and Mr Hollows even had to give out a few Head Teacher’s Award stickers as he was so impressed. Proud children, proud teachers and proud parents!
