This is a follow up to an investigation that started earlier this week. Details can be found here.
Year 6 collected their results from the tooth staining activity they explored earlier this week and produced the following conclusion;
In conclusion, we have found that all of the liquids have stained the ‘teeth’ when left submerged for just over 24 hours. Most of the predictions we made were correct. The cola, tea, coffee and grape juice all stained the ‘teeth’ but our prediction about the milk was incorrect. We thought that the milk would not stain the ‘tooth’ but it did.
We can further conclude – based on our results – that ‘teeth’ are likely to be stained the same colour as the liquid they are exposed to. Although the tea, coffee and cola were very similar in colour, the coffee stained the ‘teeth’ the most, producing a darker brown stain than the others.
Going forwards, the Year 6 children have decided that they might want to stay away from coffee in the future and are now aware that drinks they considered to be ‘healthy’ may have negative impacts in other areas.
Perhaps they will follow this investigation up with a recap about keeping their own teeth nice and healthy as sometimes it turns out the tooth hurts.
