Real Life Halves

The children in Reception spent some time investigating real life halves in their Maths lesson this week. They gained an understanding that a whole object halved had to be in two even pieces, the same, otherwise it’s not a fair share! They stayed engaged as they sliced and broke the objects into halves. Some children used the new language correctly even suggesting we could use a rule to make sure it’s the same size. You can imagine the teachers surprise to such critical thinking.

The next lesson the children moved on to the concept of sharing, working with cubes. In pairs they tried out the method of ‘one for me’ and ‘one for you’. It was great to see such team work and the children picking up their new learning so quick!
