Maths Adventures

Mr Peake’s and Mrs Umoh’s Maths groups took part in some exciting adventures in their learning today.

Mr Peake’s children were stranded on Hibiscus island and only by solving 3 star levels of challenging questions were they able to signal for help and escape the jaws of Hibisicus island’s deadly secret….

The challenges involved negative number problems aimed at challenging even the most daring Year 6 children. They helped to map the sea level of many discoveries and provided a handy guide to the climate to be expected on the island with some surprising temperatures recorded.

Mrs Umoh’s group were transported back in time to Ancient Egypt. They had been locked in the dark depths of an Egyptian tomb and had to work in pairs to navigate their way back from below ground level to the opening in the pyramid in the desert. Clambering up ropes and avoiding the pitfalls and traps, the children desperately climbed to safety. Taking it in turns to roll a dice and record their movements, the children worked backwards and forwards counting up and down beyond zero to find their way out.
