London Docklands- from past to present

This week, year 5 had the great delight in being able to travel via public transport to the Museum of London Docklands. Pupils had the opportunity to visit three galleries: City and River, First Port of the Empire and New Port, New City. The children explored each gallery with great care and asked some rich questions. Great curiosity was shown!

The children explored a Sailor’s Town, and since returning to school, they have been able to discuss and compare the Docklands region in the past with the present day. They identified that some of the original forms of trade have changed, and a vast amount of alternative transport links have been provided for this area such as the underground, Dockland Light Railway (DLR) and bus routes. Pupils also spoke about other key landmarks such as Billingsgate Fish Market which continue to trade in this area.

Pupils were exemplary and they have been enthusiastic in wanting to share their learning with others.
