Eastbrook Starlets Rock The 02 Arena

London’s O2 Arena was the iconic venue for the very first Eastbrook Young Voices Choir to make their debut performance on Monday evening. Following months and months of weekly choir practice, the sixteen musical enthusiasts from across KS2 finally got to experience their fifteen minutes of fame by performing as part of the world’s largest choir, consisting of no less than 9002 children.

The pupils not only moved and grooved along to ten songs that they had rehearsed, encapsulating music from a variety of artists including Heather Small and Spike Milligan, but also marvelled at the jaw dropping performances by the infamous Urban Strides dance troupe and The BeatBox Collective.

The day was phenomenal from start to finish. The train journey to the arena was full of buzz, anticipation and many a request for a snack break. It turns out that singing makes you insatiably ravenous. On arrival at the O2, Eastbrook were greeted with the magnificent news that we had been seated in a private suite, complete with a lounge, TV, kitchenette, private toilets (with no queues) and even our own O2 helping hand to make sure that our visit ran smoothly from start to finish. Not forgetting the absolutely magnificent view of the stage, too!

With such energy filling Eastbrook’s suite, the show rehearsal with principal conductor, David Lawrence, seemed to whizz by in a heartbeat and before we knew it the arena was filling up fast with excited parents and the Young Voices Choir were concert ready.

At 7PM, the lights went down and the arena was turned into the most beautiful galaxy of stars, filled with 9002 shining torches and glorious voices. After two hours of singing, dancing, clapping and cheering, the show was over. It was an absolutely amazing experience and one that has definitely left its mark on our Eastbrook pupils. The quote of the day from one of our pupils has to be, “This is probably the best day of my life.” Mrs Turner has already had multiple enquiries about joining the choir ready for 2024’s show.

Not finishing their day until 9.30PM, our little learners were absolute Trojans, showing such zest, stamina and creativity until the very end. Thank you all for bringing your Eastbrook virtues with you. Their civic virtues will continue to have an impact long after the show ends though, as Heather Small is re-releasing her chart topping single ‘Proud’ with the Young Voices Choir supporting her as a charity single to support a very worthwhile mental health charity. That’s right, our sixteen choir members are having a song released and will hopefully make it to number one in the charts! Epic!
