Pupils in Year 4 and 5 were investigating how sounds become fainter the further away that you travel from the source.  They had conversations on the playground, measuring the distance that they could no longer hear their partner. They then constructed string telephones and had conversations again on the playground. They learnt that when the string was taut, sound vibrations travelled along the string to their partner’s ear. They enjoyed testing this again on the playground.
