Black History Month

We have celebrated Black History Month at Eastbrook with a wide variety of activities. Mrs. Fernandes led a whole school assembly, whereby pupils in each class explained which famous black leader they had learnt about and shared some of their work. A selection of pupils’ work is also on display in our corridor to acknowledge this important annual event.

Year One painted portraits and read a story about the pioneering nurse Mary Seacole. Year Two published small pocket books about Mary Seacole.

Year Three watched a short film about the first black president of South Africa – Nelson Mandela and produced information posters about him. Year Four wrote short biographies about Nelson Mandela.

Years Five and Six learnt about inspiring olympic athletes Tommy Smith and John Carlos, they produced word art describing their personal characteristics.
