Shadowy Fun

Year 4 took advantage for the glorious sunshine this week to experiment with shadows. We began with an early morning observation in the playground to record the length and position of our shadow in relation to the sun. We made several visits to the playground throughout the day to continue our observations. It was amazing to see the changes in the length and position of our shadows as the day progressed. We noticed, as the sun was positioned almost directly overhead we almost lost of shadow! It became quite short and it was very close to our feet. We also observed, our shadows were always in the opposite direction to our natural source of light, the sun. We thoroughly enjoyed being outside and used the opportunity to experiment by creating interesting shapes with our bodies and shadows.
